I'm beginning to think that this guy is nothing more than an attention seeker.

Given the shambles of the Panorama bung investigation which was made partly on the back of Newell's "revelations" you have to question his credibility don't you?

Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced.

At that level, though, surely most officials are 'terrible'?  I mean we moan enough about the ones at the top level, but I'm sure you all remember what they were like in Division Two?  So at the level of Stevenage Borough, I dread to think!

The fact she's a woman probably makes her an easier target than anyone else, but even if she is bad, that reflects only on her as an individual, not women as a whole.

Not to mention his comments about his own chairman, which left him lucky to escape the sack.  He is touting himself as a bit of a 'says it as he sees it' character, crusading for what is right and just, but he's starting to come across as a bit of a knob now.

You're probably right but I guess from his view point it is all relative. He says she was poor, and therefor lower than the standard for the league he sees week in week out. Put that level of competence into a higher league with a (supposed) higher standard and you have a Mike Newell like reaction.

You're right that being of the opposite sex makes her an easy target but I'm sure that he is objective enough not bring this into his assessment of ability as a match official. Her ability shouldn't reflect on women as a whole but with so few women in the game unfortunately it will with many sections of the footballing fraternity.

I gave Elano my Porsche and now I want it back!

Me and a lad at work were talking about this and he said it was ridiculous that women should be allowed into a mans game (he's severly racist as well, and a rag!).

Another lad (a stockport fan) over heard and hadn't already heard about it (he knows nothing, he thought Crewe were in the premiership and Watford in league 2) and started going on about how he would have "gone mad" if a woman refereed a County game. (He also thinks all gays should be shot).

Nob heads the lot of them.

I like Newell.  At least he speaks his own mind, whether people agree or not, and he shouldn't have to apologise for his opinions neither, whether you agree with him or not.  And how many times do you wish that a manager would tell their chairman what they think?  More of them should do it.

Yes, they perhaps should tell them what they think. They don't need to wash their dirty linen in public though

Nobody would have dared tell Cloughie to apologise.  I could imagine the reaction if they did.  Clough - true legend.
