| Seattle Blue (12/11/2006) Of course you agree, fatsquid. That's because there aren't any sexist idiots on this forumHopefully! As for Royle i think he was asked about Wendy Toms because at the time it was big news wasn't it that shock horror a woman would officiate in a "man's game". The way i remember it he didn't agree with women doing the job at all, but i could be wrong as i was only a young squid-let then!

| | I don't think it would matter to City if the match was reffed by a 3 legged monkey with 2 heads wearing a polka dot dress, they still couldn't score a goal. |

| I totally agree with Mike Newell.
What happens when she gets bawled out by a player or manager? Her face flushes red, bottom lip trembles, tears well up in her eyes, "You've....you've changed. When I met you in the first half we used to have so much fun and laughter...now......now this?" Waaaaaaaarrrrrrrrghhhhhh....*runs to ref for a hug*
Also, what if one of them was really, really fit? You're wingers and full backs might not be
100% focused on the game. The same goes if she was a shag-nasty minger.

| SB,
If I thought that you thought I was serious, I'd be devastated.

| i agree with him in part... i have no opinion on whether she isnt good enough to be an asistant ref cos ive never seen her. but i think uriah rennie has only reffed in the top division because he is black and i imagine if it was the same situation with this lady and as a lower league team there was an official who blatantly was there for PC reasons being used in matches the FA sees as not that important, then id be a little annoyed too. im not saying a woman isnt as compatant... im just saying if they arent.. hiring to fill the quota isnt on...

| Now she's giving him the silent treatment. We all know she's received his messages, she's just making him sweat on it a bit Luton boss Mike Newell has apologised for his outburst against women officials in professional football. Newell claimed after Saturday's home defeat by QPR that assistant referee Amy Rayner should not have been allowed to run the line in a Coca-Cola Championship match. But the 41-year-old admitted his comments were "out of order" and revealed he has attempted to speak to Rayner to apologise in person. Newell told Sky Sports News: "I want to apologise publicly to Amy Rayner and to anyone else I have offended. "The comments I made were ill-timed and out of order. I wanted to apologise privately before I apologised publicly, but I could not get hold of Amy Rayner. "I have not spoken to her, but I have left messages and I will continue to try to speak to her." Newell's contrition might not be sufficient to save his job after Luton called an emergency board meeting for this afternoon, where his future is expected to be on the agenda. Newell claimed the club had gone backwards since chairman Bill Tomlins took over in 2004, but would not retract those comments. Asked whether he regretted those remarks, Newell said: "I very rarely say things I do not mean. "I have not spoken to the chairman. They have called a meeting, and I am sure I will learn the outcome. "Will I be the manager at the weekend? That is a question for the board, but I am not going to resign."

| His apology wasn't for what he said, apparently, just for when he said it.MIKE NEWELL yesterday apologised for a second time for his sexist outburst last weekend - but warned he would argue his case "at the right time". The Luton boss, severely reprimanded for his comments by the Hatters' board, revealed he had spoken to assistant referee Amy Rayner over the phone to say sorry after branding the appointment of female officials "tokenism for the politically-correct idiots". He said: "My apology to Amy Rayner and to anyone I've offended is unreserved. I was out of order. It's not the right time to be having that debate. But there will come a time when I'm happy to argue my point."

| | There's a fella I work with who is a Stevenage Borough Fan, he says that he has had this lass not as a lino' but as a ref. He totally agrees with Mike Newell not becuase she is a woman but becuase she was..in his words "Fecking Terrible". Whether his opinon has bee clouded becuase she is a woman I do not know.
