Stuart Pearce has hinted that youth may well be given a chance as the Blues look to build on a return of four points from four games.

At this morning’s Carrington press conference, the Manager said of the current set-up: “It might give the likes of Daniel Sturridge a chance. We’ve had him around the squad and he travelled with us to Reading and you just never know there might be a place available for him.”

Despite strengthening his squad with eight new players over the summer, Pearce still feels it’s a case of playing whoever he feels is up to the task, regardless of age.

He added: “I think there’s an opportunity at this club at the moment for the young players.

“There’s not a vast amount of players in their way and they’ll feel if they get a little run going they might have an opportunity of breaking through.

“Ishmael Miller is an example of that. He’s been around the first team squad and got on the pitch again on Monday night. So that’s valuable experience for him.

“I think it’s important with the youngsters that you don’t pitch them in to situations where it’s going to be detrimental to their development.”

Not really sure how to greet this news. I'll be happy to see what Sturridge has to offer.Though I always like to see players have a go against their former clubs and I'm sure Dickov will be up for it.Maybe it will be a short outing for the lad if he gets on a chance.

At the same time does this mean that we have already lost faith in our current strike options???

I would love to see some of the younger strikers have a go as long as they are alongside an experienced striker like Corradi, I think that Sturridge could have the same impact as Micah has done in our first team.

It'd be great if city get a reputation for giving youth a chance. So when all the promising kids are looking at where to start their careers, they'll think of city. Knowing that its where they're most likely to get a fair crack of the whip. We cant afford to go out and buy 16 or 17 world class players, so our best chance is to get 5 or 6 home grown players mixed with 5 or 6 bought in. Now I know its unlikely that we could produce 6 really good kids that all come through at the same time, but it has been done before, utd in the early 90s comes to mind.

I do think its the only way we're gonna have a chance of competing for the title (in my lifetime anyway) unless we can find a russian billionaire to buy city as his plaything.

Yes, all right.. Christ Almighty! It's like walking down a corridor and answering the door in Nazi Germany!

I Can see your thinking Jeebus and I agree with the idea of becoming known as a club who gives youth a chance, there have to be positives in that. There are fundamental differences between Utd and ourselves though. The success of the 10 years plus for the Rags has been firmly based on the nucleus of Becham etc. But once the Rags youth achieved success the directors decided to pay to keep them and there chances of winning competitions was also high. These together are high motivating factors for young players to stay.I don't see this being the case at City and anyhow things have moved on since Mr Posh etc made the grade. If Chelski at that time were the financial force they are today then would half of the afore mentioned players stayed at the swamp?? Money talks now more than ever as the wages are potentially so high.

I think we are in the process of bringing a few really good kids through and I dearly hope we hold of them, even with them though I still think the only way we will win the title in your or my lifetime will be via some Abramovich type or a long slow slog up the table after some cup runs both domestic and European. To get the ball rolling on that long slog what we need more than anything else is some success, however limited, which should in turn bring stability. We are seen as a big club in the eyes of a lot a people but that is based on the fan turnout and income and potential based on that but not obviously on what we have recently achieved.I only hope that SP is the man to do the job. Here's fingers crossed, once more, that we get a result tomorrow and that will be the start to get that ball rolling.

I definately think we should give Sturridge a go. He is something different from the players we have available up front at the moment. He is young and has no fear, I am sure our forwards cant have great confidence the way they have been playing.

If he can make the same sort of impact Richards has made we will be sorted. Despite a terrible performance again today he looked the business again.

if sturridge is as good as reports suggest then give him a go - normally I would suggest that he gets a chance in the carling cup  - thats not an option now  - with ned, then jordan and Ireland and now miller and richards all getting regular games then the young lads must be encouraged and believe that they will get a game
