Apparently we might be after a couple from Real Mallorca. It's on Sky Sports website but I can't seem to paste the article.

you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass
he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

Argentine wideman Gutierrezz has long been a target for Portsmouth but Manchester City are thought to have joined the chase for his signature.

Both clubs are also chasing 27-year-old Spain international frontman Guiza.

Real Mallorca are bracing themselves to lose star duo Daniel Guiza and Jonah Gutierrez during this transfer window.

The Islanders are reported to have received substantial offers for the pair from England.

Argentine winger Gutierrez was a target for Portsmouth last summer and it is claimed they are again leading the chase, although Manchester City and Liverpool are also thought to have scouted him in the past few months.

Whilst the move for Gutierrez is not a big shock, the reports that Guiza could leave will stun Mallorca fans.

The Spanish international only signed for the club in the summer, but he has settled quickly into life at The ONO Esatdi with nine goals already this season.

Now Spanish sources say a 'top' Premier League team has made a move for Guiza - whose burly yet skilful style would seemingly be ideally suited to the English game.

A move to the Premier League would no doubt appeal to the 27-year-old and it now remains to be seen who the interested party is, with Manchester City and Portsmouth again named as likely bidders.

Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced.

From the spanish press

Mallorca announced within three days of progress Jonah 'Greyhound' Gutierrez will move to the Premier.

The Argentine player had received several offers from English football throughout the season and seems to be on the market in winter when the club Balearic accept that they will loose of one of its most impotrant footballers. Portsmouth, which has already publicly expressed their interest in Jonah last October, are the club that might be behind this operation.

Another Majorcan player who could leave the Spanish League in the coming days is Güiza. And he might also go towards the Premiership. The entity that director Vicente Grande has on the table is an offer of a very important team of the Premiership, which could also be the Portsmouth, which takes time for the forward.
So not Pompey then

I quit like Guiza, not sure if he's got the class to move us on a level though. He strikes me as more of a mid-table player.

I don't think we need these kind of players. We need some superstars or players that can make difference such as Elano and Petrov.

Man City offer £7M for Mallorca star Jonas
tribalfooball.com - January 18, 2008

Manchester City have made a £7 million offer for Real Mallorca winger Jonas Gutierrez.

The Independent says City should find out within the next 48 hours whether their £7m bid to sign the Argentina international winger Jonas has succeeded.

Gutierrez is known as El Galgo - "the Greyhound" - and is a colourful character who celebrates scoring for his present club, Real Mallorca, by donning a Spider-Man mask and throwing imaginary nets into the crowd. A complication for any move has been that 50 per cent of his transfer value would go to his former club, Newell's Old Boys, which is why Mallorca are holding out for a high fee.
