City fans are now seeing the best of Martin Petrov in the opinion of Sven-Goran Eriksson.
The Bulgarian winger has put in some eye-catching performances of late, in particular when he terrorised Lucas Neil of West Ham and Blackburn Rovers’ Khizanishvili.

Petrov has started every one of City’s 21 league matches and only missed out on two Carling Cup ties, bagging four goals in the process.

The Manager feels that the 28-year-old has now fully hit his straps in the Premier League, and he says,

“When we bought Martin he was still coming back from a bad knee injury, he only played a few games at the end of last season. Now he’s back to the real Martin Petrov and I hope that he can play like he has done in the last month for the rest of the season.

“If he plays like he did against West Ham last weekend he is a very important player for us. I think we are seeing the best of him, but if he plays like that I’m very happy.”

And when asked if Petrov, never slow to show his emotions on the pitch, was frustrated that none of his crosses or corners were converted at Upton Park, the Manager laughs,

“He didn’t say anything afterwards, but maybe he was a little bit!”

I think the guy has been a revelation! He doesn't allow opposition full backs to progress forwards, giving much more time to our full backs. Once we get a fast striker storming into the box, our goals tally will soar and so will Petrov's assists.

Can we clone him for the right wing?!

He was announced today at N2 in the 2007 edition of Bulgarian Player of the Year, by the way. Just Berbatov ahead of him.

Courage, boy!
