Sturridge back in training

09/01/2008 15:37
Sven-Goran Eriksson has been handed a timely boost with the news that Danny Sturridge has returned to full training with the rest of the squad.

The highly-rated striker, who made two substitute appearances early in 2007, has been sidelined since the summer with a hip injury.

However after a lengthy rehab programme under the supervision of City’s medical and fitness team at Carrington, the 18-year-old has now joined in full sessions for the first time since the Manager’s arrival last July.

Sven says: “Danny has been back in training for the last two days now, and from what I’ve seen there’s no doubt that he’s a very good football player.

“He’s not ready to play in games just yet, but maybe in a couple of weeks time or within a month he could be ready for a reserves match.

“I had heard that he is a big talent, and just looking at him in training I can see that he could well be an important footballer.

“I have said to him, ‘I’ve finally seen you play!’ I have been here half a year and had not seen him play yet, so to see him has been a positive surprise. He’s got a good left foot and he’s a strong guy as well,” Sven concludes.

Wonder if he'll live up to the hype or end up another BWP.

From what I saw on the Manchester Channel a while back he looked better than BWP but then again he was only playing against kids.

Came on as a sub a few times when SP was in charged, never really had enough of a run to make an impact.

Sven does say he has been pleasantly surprised. I think he will need to be pretty outstanding in training with our current squad to stand a chance of making the first 16.

Who knows. I find him to be a similar player to Vassel who might not be at his level right now, but should excede or be at that level in a short amount of time. His return, in my opinion, is close to being a quality signing that should help the depth at forward. Hell, if our forwards keep on playing the way they are, why shouldn't he get a shot on the pitch?

I suggest we drink.. before we go out to drink

What strikes me is that he's still only 18. He's still developing. Great to have prospects like that in the pipeline. But we have to remember you need quite a few to find the special ones.

Too often, we lose sight of lifes simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and bitch-slap that mother....pass it on.
