If we have Dabo and Beasley fit and on form I think at least one winger and a striker are the priority for the January window.

A striker would be good, but only on the condition that it is a different type of striker to what we already have for God's sake, otherwise we are going to end up with a ridiculous number of similar strikers, none of whom can actually score a goal!  We have the support/link up strikers who work hard and run their socks off, or flick the ball on to create chances but score few goals, and we have promising youngsters who are relatively untested at this level and are still learning their trade so can't be burdened with that much responsibility.  In other words we seem to have secondary, substitute and developing strikers all sorted, but we are desperately missing a big strong striker who will lead the line now and has an eye for goal, even if they don't contribute all that much else.  Just as Darren Bent does for Charlton, as SP pointed out after our game against them.  If we had one striker who gets anywhere near as many goals as him, as Cole looked like he was going to last year, we would be in much less of a predicament.

Only problem is, where do you find a decent, proven, strong main striker for the kind of money we are likely to have?

I wouldn't replace Distin, i would play Richards or Onuoha there and if we received a fee, i would put that towards someone else.

I agree we're missing Cole, but i'm not sure we have the money to replace him. All the strikers we've been linked with are untested at the top level and would be something of a gamble.

As i said in an earlier post, I would like 2 wingers and maybe a left back.

I think it's easy to forget that Distin is a top left sided defender and that playing Richards or Onuoha there is no gaurarntee of success. I do think both of those players are good enough to be in the team, but just not sure that they can fil Distin's boots.....................

A quality left back would be nice though, there's just not too many around!

A goal scorer is needed to replace Cole, although I think Vassel and Sam could make a good partnership and are young enough to have many years in front of them.

The MuEN has us interested in McLeod(Mk Dons), Sharps(Scunthorpe), Maynard(Crewe-only played 13 games) and Folan(Chesterfield) plus the usual Eastwood, Nugent and Healy. Not much experience there and even less in the top flight.

Indeed, and this is the problem.  For every Dean Ashton and Andy Johnson etc there are several Mackens or DJ Campbells, and everyone's opinion on which will be able to make it invariably differs.  By the time anyone has found out that one of these lower league players can cut it in the Premiership, their value has skyrocketed out of our range.  These things are such a gamble (not to mention having to give them time to adapt), and unless we get it absolutely right then everyone will be grumbling about wasting yet more money that we don't even have on another useless striker not up to the Premiership.  It's very tough to get right, yet essential that we do...   I don't envy SP in this decision.

From what i've seen of Nugent or Eastwood, i think they can score goals in the Prem.  Only trouble is City couldn't afford them.  Looks like we're stuck with Corradi, Dickov, Sam and Vassell.

i think we should judge the strikers more when we have some midfielders who can give them service... vass and sam will be good if they can get a run of games together.

Cool Cool Coolio...

The Charton game proved that even with the service they couldn't hit a barn door at 30 paces.

That's a bit harsh considering how well the Charlton 'keeper played, plus Vassell is just coming back. I know he isn't an out and out goal scorer, but I think Sam can be; he just needs to work harder.

What I'm saying though is chances ARE being created, just not converted.

Whover we buy has to be fit,and uninjured and must stay that way for more than the first 20 minutes of the first day's training.

you do not mess with Jack Reacher
