SP reckons that he's going to strengthen 4 positions in Jan. Given that he signed 6 or 7 players in the summer, that's an awful lot of positions he believes we aren't good enough in. It makes you wonder if we have any kind of transfer stategy at all.

So, what are the 4 positions? Left back, both wings, creative mid, maybe a striker to replace Cole?

We certainly need a creative midfielder, and a striker who can actually score goals. Other than that our hand could well be forced in the full back position if Distin goes, I also feel we need another option at left back.

To win more games we definitely need more creativity, either through the middle or out wide.

Personally, I'd rather see two wide players that can create problems rather than a central midfielder. There are already question marks over Beasley's robustness and ability to compete physically in the Prem and Sinclair is an honest player who covers a lot of ground, but doesn't really deliver much in the final third.

Our strikers problems are well documented, though i do think that a fully fit Vassell will give us another dimension alongside either Corradi or Samaras.

Jordan is OK defensively but useless supporting his winger, whereas Thatcher is a liability defensively and though he does get forward, he hasn't the ability to hurt teams when he does.

Why do you have to question this and make it sound like SP and City haven't got a clue.

It's fairly obvious that SP didn't get everyone he wanted in the summer, a player wanting to leave next summer , or in Jan if we sell and we lost a striker very close to deadline day last time.

What's the big problem with SP saying he wants 4 players, you know the squad is small and with the 3 changes that have been or will be forced on us, that leaves one position extra. So if SP came out and said, I don't need any new players; you'd be happy? No you'd be in uproar saying about how many players we need because of this and that.

Get off his back for a change and let him get on with managing the team.

He's not said he wants to sign 4 players, he said he wants to strengthen 4 positions. It's this that I find it disconcerting. The fact that the manager has said that he wants to strengthen nearly half the positions in the team halfway through the season.

So how does he strenghten 4 positions without signing 4 players?

But you agree that :

1: We probably are going to have to replace Distin
2: We need to replace Cole as he left way to late last transfer window
3: We know we need a creative midfielder
4: I'll leave this up to SP

So apart from one position (go on, surprise us SP!), what's the problem and why is it such a surprise. I was glad to see SP saying this to be honest.

If we have Dabo and Beasley fit and on form I think at least one winger and a striker are the priority for the January window.

Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced.

I wouldn't replace Distin, i would play Richards or Onuoha there and if we received a fee, i would put that towards someone else.

I agree we're missing Cole, but i'm not sure we have the money to replace him. All the strikers we've been linked with are untested at the top level and would be something of a gamble.

As i said in an earlier post, I would like 2 wingers and maybe a left back.
