A few reports lately seem to indicate that quick strikers or creative midfielders can come at City via Garrido  - he seems to be a weak link in quite a few reviews.  I personally would like to see a new left back brought in to make Ball and Garrido fight for their place.  What's the general opinion ?

He's had his moments, but it would be harsh to give up on him right now. He's also been a steady defender for the most part and it was enlightening to see him at LW against Bolton. It's easy to forget he's only 22. There's a lot of upside.

I think that Ball should come in at left back - he is a much better defender. Perhaps give the Ball-Garrido combo a go and have Petrov on the bench as he could do with some competition too. Ultimately I don't think that Sven thinks Ball is the answer and if that is the case then he does need to being in a new left back.

Garrido's still a kid.  Been in the country what, three or four months.  He's done very well the majority of the season, give or take a few dodgy moments.  Those dodgy moments were either positional or hesitation as far as I've seen, and that's stuff that can coached out of him.

Ball's a decent player too, so I don't think we've any need for another left back at the club.

Also why the downer on Petrov?  Another who's still settling and he's got four goals and a few assists.  You don't help a player to settle by putting him on the bench, especially when we don't have a decent alternative.

I think Ball is the better left back and would be happy for him to be in the team. Yes, Garrido is young and still settling but he is not coping against players like Lennon and Cole. He will struggle against Young at the weekend and I really do not want to see him ripped apart by Ronaldo. I'm not trying to be unnecessarily cruel but any opposition manager is going to tell their players to get at us down Garrido's side so Sven has to stop it.

I just think that Petrov is the sort of player that needs some competition as he has a tendancy to go missing. He can be great but most players need to have the pressure of someone else who can take their place - it can surely only make them work harder for their place in the team. At present he knows he'll be in as there's nobody else who plays there.

totally agreed on ball but not on petrov. he's already playing very hard on his side and we only have him as pacy and can dribble very fast so not comparable with vass and i think elano, petrov and hamann should play every match which they can because they're the best guys we have in the team

The boy talks sense you know?

Garrido is still learning and he has an unfortunate habit of facing th attacker with his body at the wrong angle encouraging him to go towards the line if you know what I mean. Even so, he's got potential and shouldn't be written off yet.

I think we need to give all our new signings a season before we make judgements. If you look at teams like Utd who buy foreigners in, it often takes them a season or so to bed in and get used to the style and pace of the prem. We can't really criticise too much as we're sat at the right end of the table at xmas, and compared to last season we're looking amazing. It all needs putting into perspective.

I think pre-season most people on here were saying a top 10 finish would make them happy this season, and the players we have can achieve that for us. A few additions in Jan and we'll be fine.
