Fabio Capello's son and advisor has admitted that the Italian does want to open talks with the Football Association about taking charge of England.

The former Real Madrid and Milan coach has emerged as favourite to succeed Steve McClaren after Jose Mourinho pulled out of the race on Monday.

Capello is odds-on ahead of fellow countryman Marcello Lippi and his son Pierfilippo - who is a lawyer and acts on behalf of his father - has reiterated that the 61-year-old is ready for talks at Soho Square.

Talks

"The England job is really special," Capello jnr is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"When the FA wants to speak to you, you have to listen, no contact has been made yet but we are waiting."

Capello now looks set for talks in the near future and if all goes to plan, the FA could have their man in place before Christmas - as chief executive Brian Barwick had hoped.

Reports suggest that Capello will opt for an English inspired backroom staff with Alan Shearer, Stuart Pearce and Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola - who is currently working with the Italian Under 21s - all in-line to take up roles.

Wasn't keen on Capello really until i read that last bit. Looks promising that line up doesn't it.

Couple of things I like about the Capello move-a) he's really the only one who came out and said he wants the job right from the beginning b) he's good at being a disciplinarian/swinging the big stick-I think a few of our team could do with that.

I think it is a risk actually Ben, does he really understand the English game? I think it is important. MO.

I know but many knew he was the wrong appt from the off. Capello maybe master tactician and that suits strategy heavy wop game but does it work for the English is a sizeable question mark. IMO.

It's a fair point but why not?  It may work.

Nice casual racism btw.

I think you maybe right, it is high time to try a new system of management. Capello may well be the man for the job.

Thought Paddy wouldve been on to that lickety split. Fucken Ities, cheating c^nts, never forget the WC or the fact they couldnt make their mind up during the war. Some of my best friends are Italiano, so, that doesnt make it any better.

Plus point if Capello got the job - The end of Beckham.

Negative point - Very defensive footy.

IMHI Lippi has better credentials than Capello.
