| Last year a statue of Phil Lynott was put up in Dublin off Grafton Street. The money was raised by the fans who campaigned for years with local authorities. Phil's mother unveiled the statue on his birthday. It has proved to be very popular with locals and tourists alike. People often leave flowers, tape roses to his coat or put plectrums throught the strings of the bass.

Over the weekend someone stole the bass guitar.
Now normally I'm against the death penalty but I'd bring it back for this guy. I'd be in favour of a public hanging from the spire in O'Connell Street.

| I literally bumped into the great man once, in Manchester years ago. He ran from an hotel doorway to a waiting limo and nearly knocked me over on the way. He was nice enough to apologise and left me awestruck and open-mouthed.

| | Fuckin scum. So disrespectful. One question though. How on earth did they steal it? Surely it's attached to the statue and it can't be light.
you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

| | I don't think that the guitar was actually stole. I thought it was vandaled and the gifts around the statue were take. Now if people visit, they cannot put gifts on the statue |

| | People who do that should be given a good thrashing. Reminds me of an incident last year when some yobs vandalised a war memorial in Manchester.

The bass is separate but is welded on. I haven't seen the damage yet but I might be in that part of town this evening.
I have issued a fatwah on the shite who did the damage.

| I was reading an article this morning about Phil Lynott. Its about how he wrote the song "The boys are back in town". It was the mid 70s and the Vietnam war had just ended. He came up with the title "G.I Joe's back in town". He played it to the band and they liked it but the military allusion didn't seem right. Lynott recalled the Quality Street Gang, a sixties Manchester organised crime outfit, from the time his mother ran a hotel there. He'd hit on the perfect theme. "The Boys Are Back In Town": Friday night they'll be dressed to kill, Down at Dino's bar and grill, The drink will flow and blood will spill, And if the boys want to fight, you'd better let them.
Yes, all right.. Christ Almighty! It's like walking down a corridor and answering the door in Nazi Germany! |

| What you say is only rumour . There are many story of why Phil wrote the song. Another say it is because he was a huge Manchester United fan and it was of the team returning after their victories. Also maybe it is of a group of men in Ireland who started trouble in the city of Dublin |
