| | Alex McLeish has resigned as Scotland manager and BBC Sport understands he will take over as Birmingham boss. Birmingham have called a news conference for Wednesday morning where they are expected to unveil McLeish. The 48-year-old led Scotland to the brink of Euro 2008 qualification and his deal ran until 2010. "We're very disappointed to lose Alex," said Scottish Football Assoication chief executive Gordon Smith. "He's sent a written resignation." Blues, who received £3m when Steve Bruce left for Wigan, are believed to have agreed a compensation package with the SFA. |

Scot, doing a good job for his National team, leaves to take Brum job!! Liverpool or top half team maybe, Brum..........I dont get it.

| | the scotland job is pretty rubbish though, an ambitious manager wouldnt want it. they just failed to qualify and are seen as heroes. birmingham are gonna be took over soon, maybe he's gambling on that.. or.... presuming a new owner takes over and wants his own manager in place. he could sign a five year contract and get a big fat payout in a few months and go back to scotland before they even play another game

| This seems a bizarre acceptance from McLeish, he has a very good record in SPL and if he waited another 6 months or so I daresay he could have taken a role at a PL club higher up the table. He has jumped early here and he takes on a struggling side in Birmingham.
