Very interesting post.  Long, but a good point well made.  Someone was telling me at Chelsea's academy they never play on full size pitches, except for when the kids are at school cos that's what they have available.  Not sure about ours.

My daughter age 9 plays in the Cheshire U10 league. They play 6 a side on small pitches with small goals and will do so until 13 so some leagues are trying to bring in the requirements of the article. Having watched a number of these games, however, most of the goals are scored from nearer the halfway line by stronger players who can kick the ball hard. To be fair, most of the little girls who play in goal are rubbish which may also be a factor. Hardly anyone heads the ball, mainly because the ball rarely leaves the ground. There are some quite skillful players but another problem at this age is that they play in winter and some of the players are clearly affected by the weather and the state of the pitches. When my daughter played in France the weather was generally much better and the pitches much drier which enabled the skillful players to play better. Another problem in junior football is the parents. They should be banned from watching. As a former PE teacher I had many problems with parents watching school games, particularly in the younger age groups. Now on Saturdays I see the same problems again with parents trying to coach their individual children and confusing them by contradicting the coach.

you do not mess with Jack Reacher

I love that line.
