I'd say Robinson, Richards, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, SWP, Gerrard, Barry, Cole, Owen & Rooney could match any other international team, as long as they've got a manager who's keeping an eye on tactical concerns.

Did I just see you post something about Wayne Rooney having no ball control Bassman?

Shimmer's right - our first choice XI is good enough to compete with any team in the world.

I disagree.

goalkeeper situation.  We do not have a top keeper.

centre back John terry & ? - for me we have a perfectly good centre back in Jon Woodgate but he never gets a game.

Ashley Cole - cannot defend.  Appalling.

Lampard - his way of playing for Chelsea doesn't work for England.

SWP - not good enough control at this level

Beckham - past it now.

Joe Cole - nice footballer, needs to be involved more.

Crouch - tries really hard, and is possibly this teams best player.

Owen - can't rely on him, always injured.

we have a top quality goalkeeper in david james.. but he has been ridiculed in the press....

ashley cole is a top quality left back, possibly the best in the world.. but he has been ridiculed in the press....

lampard and gerrard have always done well together until later in tournaments.. but the press started a campaign saying they cant play together

SWP - was the only player causing problems in the first half yesterday and is our most direct player, there are diff types of players, great control isnt everything. the press though decided they wanted becks back

beckham - the press demanded he was out

do you see a theme here?

Cool Cool Coolio...

absolutely, have you watched him closely?

Ashley Cole?  He's one of the worst left backs i've ever seen.

Rooney is a very skillful and smart striker. Munich or not he is quality.

that's ridiculous, his form has dipped after all the stick he took with the fallout at arsenal. but up until that he was one of the best left backs in the world, no doubt. he uses his pace to cover behind the two centre backs and is an unsung hero in my opinion.. you can see how well he plays when yu take into consideration how weak bridge, shorey and lescott have looked trying to cover for him. the press have tarnished his reputation so he gets undeserved stick.

*Don't make me laugh - he's usually the stem of our problems, giving the ball away in the left back area.

**they can't.  Neither of them is a naturally holding player.

***great control means you are a better player, poor control means it takes you too long and time is wasted.

Agreed he can do some great things, unfortunately he isn't as good as he's made out to be, and does nothing against really good defenders, like the Italians.

Just watch Cole next time for England.  His positional play is atrocious, and he can't defend.  He gets good press because he bombs forward.

* cole does bomb forward, but what he is great at is usuing his pace to cover behind the centre backs when someone gets through... watch next time they play. i presume you do watch and not just read the Sun in the morning?

** 90% of england games are played against teams that will sit back, so why do we need a holding midfielder? it's a waste of a player.

*** SWP can kick the ball past the player and run onto it, he has competent control, there are many different styles of footballers, having a good first touch isnt everything.

**** becks should have not been an "untouchable" player, but mclaren sacking him off completely prob thinking this would please the media and fans..again points to the media's influence on the team being a major prob.
