McClaren shelters under an umbrella as England stumble at Wembley
Steve McClaren has been told in private by the Football Association that he has been sacked as England coach.
The FA is set to formally announce at 0945 GMT that McClaren has lost his job 18 months into a four-year contract.
The FA has been holding an emergency board meeting since 0830 GMT at its Soho headquarters in London.
The decision comes after England's 3-2 defeat by Croatia and failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

Former Middlesbrough boss McClaren, 46, admitted before the Croatia match that he would "take responsibility" if England failed to reach the European Championship finals in Austria and Switzerland. England's failure to reach a major tournament for the first time since the 1994 World Cup finals will cost the FA at least £8m in lost revenues. The FA has plenty of time to search for a replacement with the next scheduled fixture a friendly in France at the end of March. McClaren's dismissal will come after one of the worst England performances in years, described by BBC pundit Alan Hansen as "a real low point in English football history - they were abysmal, truly abysmal". Silva capitalised on some ponderous defending to put Ivica Olic through for another.

Still got a bunch of over paid dullards that wear the shirt to deal with. Positive note, Beckham will never play for England again in a major tournament. Over paid indeed. Croatia were a class above last night but I'll bet their players earn peanuts compared to our heros. We seriously need to take a good look at ourselves in this country. We should ask ourselves if having the best* league in the world is a satisfactory trade off for a failing national side? *For best read richest. As City fans we know full well the football can be turgid, we know there is little competition outside the top four and we know the quality of the footballers we are bringing into this country are no better if not worse than those wanting to play in Italy or Spain.

yup. Same shitty overpaid, overhyped players as Sven had and he not only qualified comfortably but took us to quarter finals and penalties. Doesn't seem so bad now.
