| Been watching a bit of lower-league action this season and have been really impressed with some of the players, not only in The Championship but League One aswell. Has anyone else spied anyone we may want to keep an eye on? A few who've really stood out for me have been:
Nicky Maynard (Crewe) - Strong, pacey forward who's bagged nine in nine starts. Definitely one to watch. Probably the best I've seen outside of the Premiership. Won't be at Crewe too much longer, if i were Pearce I'd snap him up now. Cost: £1m?
Gareth Bale (Southampton) - Again, already good enough to play at a higher level, imo. He plays left-back, can tackle, pass and loves going forward. Plus, he's got the sweetest left foot you've ever seen. Already scored two free-kicks this term. Cost: £3m?
Izale McLeod (MK Dons) - 42 goals in 83 starts says he certainly knows where the net is. Bit of a temper on him but good close-control, seems eager to run at people and looks quite fond of sticking them away. Cost: £1m?
Boaz Myhill (Hull) - Best 'keeper outside the Prem, imo. Ex-Villa trainee, strong, reliable, steady. Cost: £1.5m?
Nicklas Bendtner (Brum) - On-loan from Arsenal, looks like a real gem. Great finisher already. Cost:Loan deal?
Billy Jones (Crewe) - Left-back-cum-attacking-midfielder-cum-winger-cum-holding-midfielder-cum-centre-half who i believe we've had looked at in the past. Not sure if he's ready for the Prem yet but we may want to keep an eye on him. Already got 100+ games under his belt and gets a goal or two. £750,000?
Lloyd Sam (Sheff Weds) - Right-winger on-loan from Charlton. Extremely fast and quite tricky, reminds me of a young raw SWP. £?
Freddy Eastwood (Southend) - Excellent finisher. Real poacher but a good footballer, too. Only a matter of time before he moves on. I really hope he comes here. £1m?
Giles Barnes (Derby) - A forward who doesn't score goals but scares defenders daft. One goal in 30+ games is hardly prolific but i suspect he might end up as a winger. Extremely fast. £1m?
Leon Barnett (Luton) - 20-year-old Centre-half who I've only seen a couple of times this year. Athletic, quite a big presence. Looks like a decent player potentially. £500,000? We have a "lower league" here called the MLS and I go and see the New England Revolution a bit. I would tell Mr Pearce to cobble together the 2Mill it would take to prise Clint Dempsey from the Revs. A cracking player. Attacking midfielder who also plays up front. Quick, strong and excellent in the air and is good for 10-15 goals a year. (Mind you that's what we heard about Sibby too... ) Dempsey is only about 24 and is already a proven international (and scored in the WC). He also has a bit of attitude and is a bit of a tough guy so he would want to calm down a bit, but he is indeed very talented and would suit the English game. I would compare him to Tim Cahill.
Oh and he badly wants to play in England. Reading and Charlton are already sniffing around.

| Would it really take £2m to get Dempsey? I'm not sure what the going rate is for MLS players, but I don't think it's a huge amount. Don't they have some weird system in MLS where the league, rather than the clubs, owns all the players' contracts or something?

| Charlton are basically lower-league.....| Manchester City have been linked with a move for Charlton midfielder Darren Ambrose - despite Iain Dowie insisting the player has a future at The Valley. | | The England U21 international was believed to be questioning his Addicks future after little more than a bit-part role this season and City have been alerted. | | | Stuart Pearce is short in the wide areas and Ambrose ability to play on either flank would make him an attractive option for any club, but Dowie this week insisted the player was not for sale. | Dowie has spoekn to Ambrose about his lack of first-team action and has called on the former Ipswich and Newcastle man to be more reliable but is confident he can bring the best out in the 22-year-old.
However if Ambrose continues to be overlooked he may look to leave the club in January and City are monitoring the situation closely. |

| | I've heard good things about Eastwood from some of the pundits on TV & Radio. Supposed to be a real natural finisher. Also he is apparently a PIKEY so i supposed he is a real goal poacher. 45 in 83 games is good return albeit in lower divisions.

| | If we were to get anyone from Wednesday, I'd have Chris Brunt, a left winger with an eye for goal. AS for Giles Barnes (ex-rag) hes a right midfielder/centre mid, not a forward. Good creative player. |
