The difference between now and 6 or 7 years ago is that even obscure slovaks cost a lot of money these days and more importantly want big wages

you do not mess with Jack Reacher

Proof of that is the 10 mil that the arse spent on Alex Hleb despite him being unknown in most of europe at the time

This is a remarkably good football thread for once.   Credit due to MRAMB - I share almost all your opinions.

I'm willing to accept another couple of seasons of crap to get us on a sounder footing and to give Pearce chance to develop both himself and the squad. Getting rid of the manager just isn't an option IMO - that way leads madness.

Even if we don't beat 'Boro, I've seen enough this season to convince me that we'll stay up.  There's teams who'll struggle more than us over the length of the season, and I think we'll scrape enough points together at home to achieve that dreamed-of lower mid-table spot.  I also don't think we'll continue to play as poorly as we have for much longer.  A few players back from injury (Isaakson, Beasley, Onuoha), a return to form from one or two others (Hamann, Dunne), and a bit of confidence in the play of Vassell and Ireland should see a marked improvement in the team.

Maybe I'm being over optimistic?

I agree with you , but at my age i don't want to put up with another 2 seasons of crap , because by City's standards 2 will become 3 and 4 and 5 etc., etc. Fortunately having already put up with 50 years of this crap I have come to the conclusion that twill ever be thus so I won't be too disappointed.

The problem is that in the 60,s we could go out and buy Bell and Summerbee and Lee et al to build on the Oakes and Doyles, and KK could, 30 years later, go out and buy Berkowitz and Bennarbia but now we can't cos as I said unknowns cost and want too much.
