Half Bassman Half Biscuit (28/04/2008)
slart (28/04/2008) Like the 80s stuff like Discipline. Very different to the early stuff. Great musicians. Very inventive. You ever heard that beginning to melt, i think Fripp was on that was he? with Mick Karn etc, or i may be mistaken. A very chilled out album i recall. You ever heard bands such as PFM, van der graff generator, Mother Gong etc. I like VDGG. Used to listen to a lot of Gentle Giant, IQ Pallas, Yes, Marillion, Nektar and ELP. A lot of this stuff is pretentious, but they all have good players and a bit of adventure about them. And silver capes. Strawbs? Roy Harper? John Mayall? and the finest album what i consider from that era John Martyn - Solid Air. Not impressed by the little I heard of the Strawbs. Love Solid Air - though its the only John Martyn album I own.

I agree with the John Martyn, his other stuff doesn't come close to matching this album - and some of the other gear had Phil Collins on it for christ's sake. The Strawbs, you heard Grave New World? they did some tripe as well, like the novelty Part of the Union.

| | I haven't skipped the other John Martyn albums cos they're bobbins, just haven't got round to investigating them. Have you ever listened to Richard Thompson?

I have, Bless the weather and...the follow up to Solid Air, can't remember the name of it. They just weren't of the same class. Then the early 80's stuff had Phil Collins on them! Yes, Richard Thompson. There's a tune called Psycho Street, you heard that, on one of his early 90's albums. I'll google it. Not got any on cd, used to have taped copies of stuff like that, but some of the tapes have deteriorated. Bloody hell, used to have tapes of Curved Air and all that kind o thing as well.

I think you've just created their finest hour Slart.
Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced. |
