Free cd of Bowie coves with this month's Uncut includes an awful "Rebel Rebel" from Sigue Sigue Sputnik but a brilliant "Sound and Vision " by The Sea and the Cake as well as decent "Heroes" King Crimson, "Moonage Daydream" by LA Guns and "Memory of a Free Festival" given fresh legs by Mercury Rev.

Listening to the covers does make you realise how distinctive Bowie's voice was though. Like him or loathe him he was unique.

He hasn't popped his clogs yet! I'll buy it for the flight home.

Musically he died.....a long, long time ago......

never been into bowie myself

Someone get a message through to Captain Snort
That they better start assembling the boys from the fort.
And keep Mrs. Honeyman right out of sight,
'Cos there's gonna be riot down in Trumpton Tonight.

you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass
he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

I have Diamond Dogs that i have only ever listened to once and wasn't impressed by. I also have an album (don't know which one) that i've never listened to. However, last night, i did put Hunky Dory on, which i've had for ages and not listened to...i must say i quite enjoyed it. Didn't love it, but did did enjoy. Maybe i just wasn't in the right mood for Diamond Dogs.

Must purchase Ziggy Stardust

I have a copy of that on vinyl and must have played it all of.....one time only. Doesn't help having it on vinyl, but wasn't blown away by it either, even though it is meant to be the best 'Bowie' album.
My favourite Bowie album is Low. But perhaps that is because it isn't really a Bowie album. it is more of a Brian Eno album. Some may argue the contrary, but without Eno, this album would not have sounded as it does.

Diamond dogs is a terrible album, no wonder you didn't like it. Hunky Dory is good, probably his first decent effort. Actually, his debut album David Bowie is okay in a quirky trippy nursery rhymey sort of way, very Syd Barrett. But besides Ziggy Stardust you should also get Aladdin Sane.

Yes, all right.. Christ Almighty! It's like walking down a corridor and answering the door in Nazi Germany!

The Beatles White Album I'd put on for a reason I won't bother you with but it's been a while since I listened to it.

I couldn't help noticing how rubbish huge parts of it are.
