| Just to resurrect this old thread and get it back on topic, this article embodies two reasons why I don't like Frank: Frank Lampard says he is not worried about winning his place back in the England team. The Chelsea midfielder has lost his place in Steve McClaren's side to in-form Aston Villa skipper Gareth Barry. Lampard has also come in for heavy criticism from sections of the press and was roundly booed by sections of the England fans when he came off the bench in the 3-0 Euro 2008 qualifier win over Estonia. However, the 29-year-old insists he is not concerned about England at the moment and just wants to do his best for new Chelsea boss Avram Grant. Lampard told the Daily Star: "The England thing is not important to me at the moment. What is important is playing well for Chelsea. "When you're playing well and on top of your game, you've got a feeling of confidence. Then there are times during the season when you feel like you can't put a pass straight. "I've dropped below the standards I want to set in the past. What player doesn't? "I have nothing to prove. The more experience you get in football, the more you realise that you don't take notice of what someone wants to say about you isn't involved in football or is just a fan." * Lampard turned in a superb display in Saturday's 6-0 Premier League demolition of Manchester City. He added: "It's one of the best games I've played. I felt on the top of my game. "The goal I was trying to get didn't come, but, in terms of assists and midfield play, I was pleased ** and it was nice to play in a team brimming with confidence." * Just a fan? Those same fans who pay your wages, and whose hopes and dreams you carry into every tournament (or just the qualifying as the case may be) on your overpaid shoulders? Just because people may not play professionally doesn't mean they don't understand the game, you patronising tit. ** Whoa there, as a midfielder, you are disappointed because you didn't get on the scoresheet when your team wins 6-0? You set up a couple of goals, and yet wanted a piece of the glory for yourself and have the gall to complain that the match didn't go exactly as you wanted? The point is, Frank, that if you spent more time 'trying to get' assists and making all-round contributions to the team, and less on desperately trying to get on the scoresheet, you wouldn't be quite so disliked as such an arrogant, selfish one-trick pony.

| | I think what he said's fair enough. Why should he take any notice if a few knobhead England fans are booing him at tis stage of his career? That seeams to be what he's getting at. The second point seems fair enough too. If we'd put six past someone and Elano said in an interview afterwards he was disappointed not to score would you be criticising him? I doubt it. Lampard was outstanding on saturday by all accounts.

| I really don't like the "just a fan" comment, I must say.

| Bastard (29/10/2007)
Lampard was outstanding on saturday by all accounts. Have to agree with that. The through ball he played for their second (I think) is probably one of the best passes you'll see all season.

| | Took us apart on Saturday, he was the Chelsea driving force. BU hates him, but I feel that his feelings stem more from what Frank has done for England rather than club, and lets face it, he wasn't at fault for the mess in Moscow. Lampard is one of the best at what he does, he isn't a Gerrard, but he's as good in his own way.

| | Any footballer who even utters the phrase 'just a fan' is a knobhead themselves, who clearly has delusions of grandeur and an utter disregard of where they've come from and who it is that makes the game what it is and allow him to be paid his outrageous wages. if Elano was complaining that he'd been trying to get a goal when we had won 6-0, instead of feeling satisfied in doing his job as a midfielder, creating goals and helping the team to a right royal thumping of the oposition, I would certainly be questioning why he wasn't happy with what he'd done. It's Fwank's phrasing too - 'the goal I was trying to get'. Sounds more like his primary objective than just one aspect of the role of a midfielder, and the thing he mentions first when talking about the details of his own performance.
