| because when he's been playing badly he comes out with things like i should have more respect than i get, rather than i've not been at my best but i'm sure i can get back to where i was, like any other player would do.

| Bastard Barber (15/10/2007) I've never heard him say that. Got a link?
along the same lines:

Before I could congratulate him on his Footballer of the Year award, his England Player of the Year award, his Premiership winner’s medal or his £5 million-a-year contract he looked me square in the eye and without letting go of my hand said: “You called me a fat cockney twat”.
At least I assume he was looking me in the eye, I was distracted by the sheer size of his tie knot, his bright pink tie knot. It was huge. I went to reply (something along the lines of: I write a column as an Arsenal fan, it’s a joke and anyway I didn’t call you a twat) but he cut me off: “It’s about respect,” he said.

| | Frank Lampard hit back at the critics who have slated his World Cup performances and told them to show him more respect. Lampard came into the tournament as runner-up behind Ronaldinho in FIFA's World Player of the Year award and had another outstanding season with Chelsea. He was England's top scorer in the qualifying campaign but he did not find the net in Germany and missed a penalty in the quarter-final shoot-out defeat to Portugal. Lampard said: "I've been a little bit upset that, after what I've done in the last couple of years, I've missed chances and a few people have been on my back." He added: "I'm upset about that because I've worked my socks off to try to be successful in this World Cup. "I would have loved to have scored the winning goal and shown a few people what they wanted to see. "I'm getting criticism from outside and I feel it's a bit unjust and it gets my back up. I think I deserve a little bit of respect for what I've done in the last few years but sometimes people come and want to knock you down." Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Lampard were the culprits in the penalty shoot-out. Lampard said: "It doesn't isolate individuals as such but it doesn't make it any easier. "The lads who missed the penalties are all disappointed. It's a horrible thing. You stand up to be a man and you put yourself in a position to miss. It's emotional. "It's pretty depressing really to get knocked out after putting 120 minutes effort in like that."

| | haha! whinging about being blanked in a restaurant http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article75104.ece FRANK LAMPARD last night blasted Jens Lehmann over a lack of respect. Arsenal keeper Lehmann branded the Chelsea and England midfielder “a specialist in insulting people” after Sunday’s tense London derby at Stamford Bridge which ended 1-1. Lamps hit back: “We had words but Lehmann shows no respect to any one on the pitch ? and I don’t mean that just from my own perspective. “He has a way of looking down his nose at people. I certainly didn’t say anything that I feel warrants an explanation. “For me, it’s all in the heat of battle and nonsense to start talking to the media about it afterwards. “But the other week myself and my cousin Jamie Redknapp were out to dinner in a London restaurant and Lehmann was sitting just feet from us on another table. “We acknowledged him and he completely blanked both of us. In fact, when he left, we walked right past our table and didn’t even have the decency to say anything ? whether nice or rude! “Perhaps Lehmann’s more just sensitive than the rest of us.”

| Football: Lampard hoping to turn slurs into spursThe abuse began when he was a teenager warming up on the touchline at Upton Park, and the hissed allegations of nepotism, the contempt for a local boy, remain a mystery even to this day. No one really knows why West Ham's support came to dislike so intensely a footballer born into the tradition of their club but one thing is certain: when Frank Lampard returns there today he does so as a man who has found his place in the world. |
