I think you may have read too much into ESM's post BU. And anyway, you probably could play them both in the same team if you payed Elano in a 4-4-2. Agreed.

| | So you'd rather have Chelsea players at City, than City players at City? I don't rate Lampard, simple as. There are better players than he in that role.

| How about a similar table showing form over the last three seasons TID, instead of just this one where Lampard's missed four or five games through injury?

TiD (01/11/2007) I tell thee what ESM. If chunky can't adapt his style for England and continues to be a huge fucking waste of space wearing the three lions then he can fuck off. I've never seen him get Man of the Match for England. FACT.So? I don't fucking care if he plays well for England, seems that the Gerrard/Lampard penny has finally dropped with McClown anyway, much good it did mind. He's still the best at what he does, but he isn't an Elano and shouldn't be compared. I'd have him at City. So, you'd play him and Elano? You know, it's clear to me that anyone who rates Frank 'because he score goals' lacks insight and hasn't really thought out what contibution it is he really should be making to the team. Assembling a football team isn't quite so simple as picking or buying the best goalscoring 11 for their respective positions. I'd expect a child to make that assumption. You play Frank and Elano together (which I assume you are eluding to by your last statement) and you give yourself a similar - but not identical - problem to what you have with England. You certainly can't get the best out of both, and most likely will end up getting the best out of neither. Thus they should be compared, just as Gerrard and Lampard are compared, because there really is only room for one. Now, who would you choose? Why not in the right formation? As I said to Bastard, Lampard plays along side Essien, Cole and SwP, all three attacking midfielders. SWP is a winger. Cole is a converted winger (who, IMO, would be more effective in the centre) and Essien is more of an all rounder than a dedicated attacking midfield player. We have the same at City in Elano (Lampard), Petrov (SWP), Ireland (Cole) and Johnson (Essien). If, as I assume, you are suggesting we play Elano on the wing to accomodate Fatty, then you lose most of what Elano brings. Again, Elano or Lampard? Think carefully, because your answer will say a lot about you as a person.

| Bastard Bulsara (01/11/2007) I think you may have read too much into ESM's post BU. And anyway, you probably could play them both in the same team if you payed Elano in a 4-4-2. Not at all. If anything you haven't read enough into my posts. If you have a Lampard there is no place for a fully effective Elano (or player of his ilk). That is a fact, no matter how much you stick your head up Franks arse and insist it ain't so. Now, answer the question if you will. Elano or Lampard?

I think you could play both in the centre midfield BU, but you would need a more mobile sweeper or holding midfielder than Hamann. As I said before, IMO Elano and Lampard bring different attributes to the party. Elano has the tricks, the range of passing etc, Lampard has the drive and positional awareness to pick up the loose ball and drive it home.
