| | Not a musician so I don't really understand this... My missus works as a rep for a contract cleaning company, and was asked to go and quote for cleaning a company called Light Structures in a shithole called South Elmsall near Pontefract. This company design and build light rigs for bands and other artists, and on sight they have a massive hanger or sound stage where they set up the rigs to try them out. When she was there a couple of weeks back she wasn't allowed into the hanger as she was told that Muse were in there practicing. She spoke to them yesterday and was told, "Oh we've only got Cliff Richard here today, but The Scissor Sisters will be here next week when you pop in." Two questions, 1, Why do bands need to practice with the light rigs? 2, I wonder what the fuck they think is going on when they turn up at the dump that is South Elmsall?

Still find it a bit odd. I remeber going to gigs in the 80's and the lighting was far less important than it is now. My boss went to see the fat dancer in Leeds a few weeks back, the first thing he said was the light show was fantastic. Surely the music should be the priority??

| Oh right, I'm not all for light shows, but if it's a rocking band it does add. They've been doing it for Donkeys, Led Zep did it a fair bit. I usually go to lower key affairs, acoutic stuff - the lighting isn't nearly as important for that

| It's true, I think a light show really does add to the atmosphere of a gig, you're there to see a show as it were, some may argue that if you're only there for the music then just buy the CD (not me, though).

| | I was talking to the lighting guy at the Ozrics gig. He had the bands set list in front of him, but he said he'd never met the band before, so he couldn't possibly really know what to expect. |
