Mr 'Cardigans who?' Badger (25/09/2006)
I think you're way wide of the mark bassman. The majority of music in the charts on the continent is abysmal. The British music scene is one of the richest and most diverse in the world, with some of the best artists in most genres represented. Plus, most people listen to music that isn't in the charts, they do not represent the majority of the record buying public in any way, hence the charts dying on their arse. I could name 5 Swedish bands I love, but there are scores of quality UK acts I listen to as well. To say Britain is the toilet of the music scene is laughable. I could list my CD collection and you wouldn't have heard of 1/4 of the bands, does that make my taste superior to yours? No, it just makes it different.

I'm talking about Britain in general.  And most people haven't got the foggiest.  They wouldn't know a good band if it stung them on the arse.  Clueless.  Yet this country is obsessed with listening to rubbish i.e Robbie Williams - a fookin cabaret act for fooks sake.  Britain is the music toilet of europe.

HE WAS RUBBISH IN TAKE THAT WHO WERE SEROUSLY FUCKING DIAHOREA AND HE'S ACTUALLY UNBELIEVABLY WORSE SOLO. NO WONDER THE YANKS DON'T WANT HIM NO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY ALAIN LEVY THROWS AT IT THEY WERE ALMOST GIVING THE LAST CD AWAY FOR FREE IN THE STATES AND STILL NOBODY WANTED ONE. TO THEM HE'S JUST A SHIT VERSION OF CLIFF AND THEY THOUGHT CLIFF WAS A BAD ELVIS PRESLEY WHICH HE WAS. I ACTUALLY DESPAIR WHEN PEOPLE WHO KNOW ABOUT MUSIC TALK ABOUT HIM WITH ANY SUBSTANCE OR IN THE SAME BREATH AS MICHAEL JACKSON OR ELTON JOHN.THESE PEOPLE ARE ACTUAL BRILLIANT MUSICAL TALENTS.WORLD CLASS TALENTS. I REMEMBER ROBBIE HANGING AROUND THE OASIS CARAVAN AT GLASTONBURY IN 95.HE NEVER REALLY WENT AWAY AFTER THAT IN OUR LIVES. NO WONDER PEOPLE AT MAJORS END UP BEING ABOUT THE MONEY ONLY.THEY HAVE TO WORK SHIT LIKE ROBBIE WILLIAMS.I ALMOST FEEL FOR THEM BUT SORRY I DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR THEM THEY HAVE A CHOICE AND THEY CHOSE THE MONEY SHOT TO ME ROBBIE WILLIAMS IS A CRIME AGAINST MUSIC. Again, I'll reiterate my point. The majority of people don't buy the sort of stuff that makes up the charts, that only represents a tiny proportion of the music buying public. This country produces way, way more good acts than any other European country, and this is driven by the fact that people are buying the records produced by these acts. So again, to call Britain the musical toilet of Europe is deluded.

you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass
he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

The bands your talking about, like Editors etc, the new bands, yes they are good, but they are all underground.  They might reach the outer top 20 these days because you don't have to sell many to get in there these days.  But, the general public still buy £3 zillion Robbie fuckin Williams, Scissor fookin Sisters, and other assorted cheap rubbish by the droves.  And all these 'bird' bands, where they all stand in a line and prance around to some cod hip hop beat, what's that all about???  fookin garbage.

If you class The Editors as an 'underground' band then you haven't even scratched the surface. To me The Editors are well and truly mainstream now.

Editors are an example.  I'll tell you one band who should be massive are The Subways.  They are fookin magnificent.  I bet their debut album didn't even scratch the surface of the top 40 albums though.  Another gem missed by the people, so concerned with buying Robbie Williams, they missed another treat.  Bless 'em.
