| A terrible performance. Stevie Ireland took his goal well but apart from that he was dreadful. He played in the centre of midfield and failed to control any of the play there. He was hesitant in tackles and didn't impose himself at all.
Richard Dunne was part of an experienced back four (Finnan, O'Brien, O'Shea) who played as if they had never trained together before the game. Dunne scored with a good header but was sent off after all the damage had been done. he was even reluctant to leave the pitch after he was shown the red card.
A terrible performance from all concerned and if SP gets to see a video of the match I doubt he would play either Dunne or Ireland again this season.

| | everything I say and do is blue-tinted, but the comments came from my father-in-law, who's a united fan if anything, a spurs fan and a liverpool fan. And me of course. I don't think dunne's performance was that bad. He wasn't culpable for any of the goals, and was trying to cover the holes left by O'Brien and O'Shea. Have to agree that ireland was mostly anonymous after his goal, but given that it was his competitive debut, he needed more help from the experienced players around him. Noone can take any credit from a performance like that, but there were far worse players on the pitch. 7 or 8 of them at least. |

| | Bloody hell, the injury jinx strikes again... Stephen Ireland will be returning to City earlier than expected after dropping out of the Irish squad with a hamstring injury. The news will come as a disappointment to the midfielder, who scored his first goal for his country in last Saturday’s defeat to Cyprus, who will return to Carrington after a scan revealed a slight hamstring strain. The teenager, who started his first City game this season in the last match against Everton, returns to City along with Richard Dunne, who was sent off in Nicosia and misses Wednesday’s match against the Czech Republic. City boss Stuart Pearce said on Tuesday morning: “It looks as though we have lost Stephen Ireland to a hamstring problem, so that's something we have to look at when he returns from Ireland. “The good news for us, although it's not for him or the Republic, is that Richard Dunne being sent off on Saturday enables us to have him back a bit earlier, and he'll be training with us today. It's better for me, and although I'm disappointed for Richard and Stephen that they can't play in Ireland's second game, this should benefit the Club.”

| | I'm not sure what the ireland coaches do with the team during training, but it seems to involve dropping breeze blocks on ankles and tugging limbs until something snaps. |

Well, whatever they do it doesn't involve tactics, formations, telling players to close down the opposition, passing, goalkeepers punching out balls, the defence working together etc, etc etc.
We should go back to Jack Charlton's ways and have the players stuff themselves in Burdocks chipper and go to the cinema and eat loads of pick n mix and then get tanked up at Tomangoes night club. That seemed to work.
Are you going to the match on Wednesday?

| | I haven't missed a match in eight years, but I can't go tomorrow - my wife is due to have a baby (overdue) and there aren't enough brownie points in circulation to see me make the trip from galway to dublin. I'm not that disappointed. At this stage I recognise more of the czech team |
