| It does seem bizarre, but didn't Arsenal pay £4m for Pennant when he was 14? Tbf we were all up in arms when we heard Chelsea were trying to pinch Sturridge from us before he was able to sign a proper contract. Seems City have been doing a bit of banditry themselves. We pinched Richards from Oldham too, and who knows who from elsewhere. Tis the way things are and if a player starts to show potential then all those involved in helping to make him the player he is will want some reward. Basically, if we don't want to pay a fee for the brightest young talents around then we shouldn't go seeking them out.
Sometimes I wish that I could stop you from talking when I hear the silly things that you say |

| | There is a compensation scheme for Academy players who move on before they can be legally contracted. Good idea or no one would spend a lot of money building up an academy all of whom could go to bigger clubs just before they are 17. Don't know why it took so long in this case. This is one of those areas where City have to be seen to be doing the right thing. We will benefit from a reputation for bringing on good young players, if Coventry make money out of Sturridge they will hopefully rememeber that next time they have a good young player, keen to move up a grade, and steer him towards us because they know we realsed their potential and they bot their carry. |

I wasnt aware of this and I dont really know the rules surrounding younger players than 17, hence why I was confused. So basically its a non contract contract then !! Good will and all that !!
