| This is from the NOTW, so most likely anything that did happen has been blown out of all proportion, but at least it's not just our Joey who gets into trouble on club trips abroad. Craig Bellamy has been accused of beating up Liverpool team-mate John Arne Riise with a golf club. The assault is reported to have occurred on Friday night in Portugal where the Liverpool team squad were training ahead of next week's Champions League tie with Barcelona. According to the News of the World, the 'vicious punch-up' broke out at a karoke bar. The newspaper quotes an 'inside source' saying: "There had been a lot of drinking and everyone was enjoying themselves. But it all went wrong when Craig tried to drag John up for a song. There was a karaoke competition going on, but John's a quiet one off the pitch and wasn't having it at all. "It started off as a bit of a lark with some of the other lads having a go but then it got completely out of hand. John went ballistic because Craig wouldn't take no for an answer. He was screaming at Craig to leave him alone, saying he wouldn't do it and yelling insults. "Everyone was completely stunned by it because they were really having a go, standing there toe to toe swearing at each other. There were about 20 players in the bar including all the senior guys, like Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt. "They were warned to keep a lid on it and it appeared to calm down. "It was really late, about 2am, and the players eventually started drifting off to bed. But Craig, who was sharing with Steve Finnan, was so wound up he couldn't sleep. "He suddenly grabbed a golf club and went looking for John. And when he found him he waded in, hacking at his legs with the club. "All hell was let loose and John suffered a lot of bruising. Craig was out of control and shouting that John had belittled him in front of the lads." Meanwhile, The People and the Mail on Sunday report that a number of other Liverpool players were involved in a separate 'boozy row'. 'And among those who could face disciplinary action for the fracas in Portugal are Robbie Fowler, Jermaine Pennant and Jerzy Dudek,' states the latter publication. Reports in Portugal claim that at least one Pool player was handcuffed for 'attempting to headbutt a policeman'

| If it was a failed headbutt attempt it must have been Crouch.

| The story has been toned down considerably now. You still couldn't call taking a golf club with you when you go to confront a teammate, and prodding him with it while you scream abuse, at all pleasant! In defence of the Welshman, his antics - while unprofessional - were not quite as bad as were first reported. And the rest of the Liverpool squad - with the exception of Dudek - were well behaved on their karaoke night in Monty's Restaurant and Bar at the upmarket Vale do Lobo resort. Police were called when Dudek became involved in an argument with an off-duty officer in the bar, but no arrests were made. The keeper was briefly handcuffed and later released with a warning. He also faces a club fine. Earlier in the evening, Riise and Bellamy had something of a stand-off when the Norwegian rounded on his Welsh colleague and told him to back off after jibes about the karaoke. Bellamy had barracked Riise for not singing and in the end was told to back down and keep his mouth shut. That seemed to be the end of the incident but trouble flared an hour later back at the hotel when, armed with a golf club, Bellamy went in search of revenge for what he saw as a public humiliation by his colleague. The two players were involved in a drunken bust-up in Riise's room after Bellamy had hammered at his door. But, contrary to earlier reports, Bellamy did not viciously beat his team-mate, instead merely prodding him with the golf club and threatening him with abusive language. Benitez was called to the scene, gave both men a dressing-down, and warned them that they would face club discipline on their return to England. Now Bellamy, Riise and Dudek will be hit by penalties of two weeks' wages. Contrary to reports, no other players were involved and several who were named in newspapers over the weekend, including Jermaine Pennant, are now considering legal action.
