| Distin says he has not ruled out staying at City | 03/01/2007 14:22 |
Sylvain Distin is enjoying his football and thinks there is a good chance he will stay at City beyond the end of his current contract. The 29-year-old defender's current deal expires this summer and press speculation has linked him with several other Premiership clubs, but in an interview with L'Equipe he says that his four-and-a-half years at City have seen a big improvement in his all-round game. "Many clubs want me. It's nice, but I don't rule out staying at City," says Sylvain. "I've only felt like a true professional for three seasons, because now I take care of myself more, and I stay after training for stretching sessions. For a long time I was happy only doing what I was good at, and I relied a lot just on my physical strength. "I consider myself lucky to be playing in the Premiership, both from a financial and a sporting point of view. Here, the whole stadium cheers when there's a good tackle." As well as his outsanding form in defence, Sylvain caught the eye when his stunning solo run and goal sealed City's 3-1 win at Villa Park, a rare goal that he feels has been overlooked in his homeland. "If a French international had scored that goal, it would have been played non-stop on French TV. I'm not good at PR but at least I don't belong to anybody. In England, there are some French players that are low-profile compared to some others. Some like to show off, some are more discreet." With thanks to Jean Francois Maille The OS eventually catches up, but has a bit more from Distin in it, sounds promising!!

| Barca Azul (03/01/2007) The Guardian says that West Ham are targeting Sylvain Distin to help them out of their current crisis… “Curbishley told his players in no uncertain terms that their display at Reading was unacceptable and he hopes to add at least one defender, striker and midfielder. Moritz Volz, the Fulham right back who can also operate in central midfield, is another target, though he signed a contract extension until 2009 last month. Sylvain Distin, whose deal at Manchester City expires in the summer, is believed to be among other defenders under consideration.” He would have to be on drugs to accept that if you ask me !! This one almost made me laugh

Well, if that's the calibre of clubs after Distin, I'll be glad. His interview and words above are good though, but I do wonder how much is translated and how that affects how he really thinks!
If City can carry on as they are, then i think he may well think that he can stay and be 'succesful'. Besides the so called top four, he can't really consider it a step forward going to any other club can he? |
