Simon Cowell has been very clear over the years about what he does. He takes something, packages it, sells it and makes money. Nothing wrong with that.

And Bassman, if you think an indie label has any more integrity than him then you are deluded. Andy Cairnes recently spoke about how Therapy? went label shopping. He spoke to a bloke from an indie metal label. This bloke said that if they had a "bird in the band sales would go up by 25%. Wearing masks would increase sales by 35%".

What Pete Waterman did in the 80s and 90s is not much different to Motown. They both churned out hits of variable quality.

X-Factor and the like make no difference to the music I listen to. Last Saturday I went to see The Melvins and Flipper.

If you want to get your music out there then just do it. One of your fellow forum members is doing that - The Kara Sea. She doesn't harp on about Shane Ward - she just makes her music and plays her gigs and her audience will find her.

Yes, i know that, and good luck to her.  I've listened to her her stuff, and i think it's great chilled out stuff.  But, you know me, i can be a bolshie, outspoken git, who likes to air my views  I'm a different person to her, and if something bugs me, then i have to mention it.  She's probably completely different to me.

How were the Melvins slart?  I saw them at Reading in '93 ish, and then saw them again supporting Tomohawk a couple of years ago.  I'm pleased to say they'd hardly changed at all.

Didn't John Peel describe them as "music to drown to"?

The Melvins were fantastic. One of the best I've seen all year. The venue was small, packed and rowdy.

Flipper were the support band and Krist Novoselic played bass. He was wandering around the venue before they played.

He's a very tall man.  I wondered what he'd been up to.

No sign of Simon Cowell then?
