Blues bring in international academies advisor

24/04/2008 15:15
Manchester City have appointed former Thai national coach, Roberto Carlos de Carvalho as an advisor to the development of the Club’s international academies.

The 60-year-old Brazilian coach will examine options of creating academies and soccer schools in the Asia rim.

Manchester City chairman Thaksin Shinawatra has recently stated his ambition to create a network of academies in the region.

Carvalho has previously coached in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and his home country, Brazil.

very interesting.

Manchester City's new international coach Roberto Carlos de Carvalho could have a bigger influence at Eastlands than originally believed.

De Carvalho - a former Thai national team boss - is joining City as international youth development chief and will be looking to find the best talent from around the globe.

De Carvalho has been recruited to bring through a future set of worldwide stars and save the former Thai leader from splashing out.

De Carvalho, 60, worked as coach in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and was a player with Santos and Botafogo in his homeland.

He will work as part of Sven Goran Eriksson's team, but close links with Shinawatra could see him take a more senior role in time, says the Mirror.
