Police have made two further arrests in their investigation of alleged corruption in English football.

City of London Police have questioned a 59-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, who have not been identified, on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting.

A spokesman said the pair have been released on bail. A further seven people, which include Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp, remain on bail.

Last month detectives raided Birmingham City as part of the inquiry, although officials of the Premier League club insisted they were helping officers in pursuit of parties not directly associated with the club.

Series of raids

In November a series of high-profile figures were arrested in a controversial series of raids, including Redknapp, Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie, former chairman Milan Mandaric, former player Amdy Faye and agent Wille McKay.

A City of London spokeswoman said: "A 59-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were today arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting, as part of the City of London Police's ongoing investigation into football corruption.

"They have been released on bail. Because bail dates are subject to extension and change at short notice, we will not be releasing details. If the individuals are released from bail or charged, this information will be released to the media immediately.

"A total of seven other people remain on bail in connection with the investigation."

Detectives are believed to be focusing on Faye's move from Auxerre to Portsmouth in August 2003 and subsequent transfer to Newcastle in January 2005.

Illegal dealings, illegal trading, misappropriation of funds, gross mismanagement, clandestine business transactions...which flavour could it be? As a Brum fan you'd be nervous in the waiting. So would McLeish!

Maybe we'll get our 3 points back?

The moral of the story? Never have a chairman with a comb over and lifts in his shoes.  Look at us and Swales.
