One option would be:

handball deemed intentional = penalty

ball striking the hand unintentionally but in a way that alters the path of the ball to the detriment of the attacking team = indirect free kick (maybe to be taken a minimum of 10 yards out).

There would be no advantage in deliberately aiming for a defender's hand, yet reflects the fact that the defender has gained an advantage via their hand/arm, which they are not allowed to do.

On the other hand, maybe it's just better to leave things as they are and accept that hitting someone's hand/arm is a natural hazard of the sport, as with the ball hitting the ref/corner flag/balloons   Sometimes things just get in the way and it's not the defender's fault that the ball was hit towards their arm.

That is the best suggestion about a change to the rules of football that I have ever heard. Ladmonkey, you are a genius. ...for a girl.

Are you sure I'm a girl?  Do you know something I don't?

Ooh, and it's another thing I believe everyone has to a certain degree, though mostly not to a person's detriment in day to day life.

I can see that. With me it comes and goes. Some days I have trouble spelling the simplest of words. Written down they just dont look right. If you know what I mean.

Yeah, I reckon everyone has their sticking point to a greater or lesser degree.  My thing is numbers, I have to concentrate quite hard to read out or write down numbers e.g. on the phone (though maths is fine).  It doesn't cause me huge amounts of trouble, but I am aware that I find it harder than words.  Everyone also seems to have certain words that they just can't say or spell, too.

Well how does it sit in your theorem that I have no trouble with numbers but my ability to decipher alpha experiences periods of normality and periods of 'oh my god, I cant read anymore?! How has this happened?! Is this the first stage of blindness?!!'. I actually do think that some days I cannneh read properly.

Fits in just fine.  Imagine if you had that constantly instead of intermittently and you'd have dyslexia.  As it is though, it's not enough of a problem to affect your daily life to too great an extent, so that you constantly struggle.  As with all these things, I don't think there is a 'normal' functioning and a 'defective' one.  Just a spectrum in which the extreme part of the range effectively has a disability.  Not to say that I don't think some people claim dyslexia/ADHD/whatever despite not really being justified in doing so - I doubt so many people are actually in the pathological range.
