well, the government can fuck off, as they always can in my opinion. What is it about the government that appears to have something against City, not allowing the Iraqi lad to play over here, yet they usually let all manner of crap over here. And now this. well, fat boy Brown can swivel. # To be fair I don't think this is aimed at Benji, more at the Cricket team. There is a certain amount of hypocrisy in them wanting to ban Zimbabwe but happily going to the Olympics though. For me I'd keep politics out of sport, but I realise it's not always as simple as that.

Right. And do you have an alternative to having a governed country or do you just think that all governments are 'out to get us' and should be stopped?

B for Badger (04/03/2008) They can't ban him I tells ya.
I would guess there is a precedent though, with the South Africans.
Nah, not going to happen...
There's absolutely no precedent for this. The ban on South Africa was on teams representing the country. That's why the likes of Alan Lamb came over here to represent Britain. So by that precedent not only would Benjani be welcomed, but he'd also be invited to play for England.

| Club slam BBC over Benjani claims
04/03/2008 11:30
Manchester City have today poured scorn on the suggestion that Benjani Mwaruwari could be banned from playing for the Club.
The BBC's late-night Inside Sport programme made the claim that the option of banning Zimbabwean athletes from competing in Britain is being discussed as part of a new strategy to put pressure on Robert Mugabe's regime.
Club spokesman Paul Tyrrell said: “This is the worst type of scare story which shows a lack of editorial integrity from the programme makers and although we are pleased that the BBC have today been quickly distancing themselves from the claim regarding Benjani, it is important to make the position crystal clear regarding his ability to live and work in the UK.
“The player last month received a three and half year work permit from the Home Office to play for Manchester City. We have been assured work permits are non-negotiable.
“The programme makers and the BBC should apologise to the player immediately.”
The BBC likes to think of itself as upholding the highest standards of British TV when in fact they are far worse than commercial TV because at least commercial TV is honest about what it is. Wankers.
