| So Portsmouth go top- for however briefly -without David James conceding a single goal in 5 games. *sigh*. Why does it always seem to work out that whichever team i'm secretly hoping will do badly, or even get relegated, the exact opposite happens and they do really well. I suppose it could be worse, Andy or should I say Andrew Cole could be setting the early pace as the premierships top scorer.

| | Top of the league after 3 games, ended up being relegated as the bottom club. From Wikipedia... Carlisle spent one season in the old First Division, the 1974-75 season. They won their first three fixtures of the campaign to top the table, but finished the season in bottom place and were relegated. By 1987, the club had been relegated back to the Fourth Division and spent just two of the next 17 league seasons outside the bottom division of the Football League.
