Benny (07/02/2008) There's an interesting article in 4-4-2 this month about the death of the "Strike Partnership", what with teams either playing 4-5-1 or rotating 4 strikers. There's a little snippet about the possibility of 4-6-0 with no strikers but a series of midfield marauders (almost a Tribe called quest album). I'm not sure I like that idea but I'd definitely like to see it in action once.wasn't too long ago we had the likes of the SaS and RaF playing in the Premiership SAS was one of the ones they mentioned as about the last. It's quite a good read, don't know if it's online or not. check OK, seeing as it's you asking. It's not online. Sorry I wasn't gonna read it anyway Balls to you then. so it's in my court? Your mouth, teabag style. Wondered what that was, thought it was a full stop

| This doesn't much endear him to me, tbh. Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari has revealed he did not want to leave Portsmouth and was "shocked" to be sold in the January transfer window. The Zimbabwe forward had been in fine form for Pompey in the first half of the season but was sold to City on transfer deadline day in order to fund a move for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe. The transfer almost did not happen because Benjani was reported to have arrived at City too late, but it was later sanctioned by Premier League officials who agreed all the necessary paperwork had been completed in time. Benjani claims he had settled at the south coast club and, having scored 12 goals in the league campaign, was loath to move. "It was never my choice to leave Pompey because of the special relationship that I had with the supporters, with my team-mates and with the coach," he told Zimbabwean newspaper The Herald. "I was very happy at Pompey and I think this season I showed that I had settled down well and I was beginning to produce the goals for the club. "There are some things in football that are more important than money and one of those things is a special relationship a player can enjoy with the supporters and the coach. "I had all that at Portsmouth and I was really enjoying myself playing football in a very good environment and knowing that everyone was happy with what I was doing for the club." The 29-year-old admits he was surprised to learn of his proposed move just two days before the January 31 deadline. "I was shocked when I was told on Tuesday that I was going to be sold to Manchester City before the transfer window closed," he said. "I did not know the two clubs had been talking about a transfer and I only knew on Tuesday that there were plans for me to go elsewhere. "I asked for the reason why I was being sold and they told me that it was a good business deal since Manchester City were paying a lot of money - especially considering my age - and they could also get younger players in return." Benjani conceded that protracted talks for an improved contract between him and the Pompey management might have strained his relationship with the club. "We had agreed new terms with the management on the improved contract but they said that they could only bring it into effect at the beginning of next season," he said. "I told them that if that was the case then I would not sign the contract until the beginning of the new season and I believe that is when things took a new twist. "Maybe when Manchester City came looking for a striker, the management decided it was time for me to go." Benjani, however, believes the move might prove a blessing in disguise. "It was tough to leave Portsmouth and I was late leaving my home for Manchester because I kept asking myself all day whether this was all true," he added. "I kept telling myself that it was all a bad dream and I would wake up the following day and still be a Pompey player. But this was not a dream. "I arrived there late because of one or two reasons and when I looked at the contract they were offering me, I could not believe it and I just signed there and then. "It's the best deal, in terms of remuneration, in my entire career and I was just happy with the respect I had received from Manchester City so I signed after a few minutes. "It's not easy for a 29-year-old African player to get such a deal in Europe." Benjani was also impressed with Manchester City's efforts to ensure they signed him. He said: "The manager Sven-Goran Eriksson made the long journey to London on transfer deadline day to get my work permit and you have to respect that. "It's not every day that you get a manager of Eriksson's calibre travelling such long distances to ensure that a player's work permit is in order. "Even when things did not appear to be going on well, Eriksson was still confident that everything would be fine. "He asked me three times whether I had made up my mind to join City and he said he would give me all the support I need. "It's a fresh challenge and maybe it was also the time for me to face such a fresh challenge."

| Benjani: exclusive first mcfc.co.uk interview
08/02/2008 10:00
City's new boy Benjani Mwaruwari says he's raring to go and hopes to make his debut in Sunday's Manchester derby.
The Blues' £3.87m capture from Portsmouth has given an exclusive interview to www.mcfctv.com and www.mcfc.co.uk for the first time since he joined City and here are the highlights...
mcfc.co.uk: Welcome to Manchester and Manchester City Benjani. How does it feel to finally be a City player?
Benjani: I’m very happy. To move from Portsmouth to Manchester City is a good move for me. City are a big club and Manchester is a very nice city.
mcfc: You’ve had a couple of days to take things in, so can you give us your first impressions of the Club and the surroundings here at the Carrington Training Centre?
Benji: “I was very happy when I saw the training ground and everything here. All the staff have welcomed me and been good to me.”
mcfc: You’ve had a chance to train with your new team mates, what is your first impressions of them?
Benji: “Like I said about the staff here, the players have been good to me also and welcomed me – so that’s very important to me.”
mcfc: Have you had the chance to get over to the City of Manchester Stadium yet for a proper look around?
Benji: “I haven’t been to the City of Manchester Stadium since coming up here. I already know about the Club and I’ve played there before – it is a good stadium.”
mcfc: So you’ll be looking forward to the welcome from the City fans as well?
Benji: “Oh yes, that’ll be very, very important to me. If the fans welcome you then you feel at home and I’m very much looking forward to it.”
mcfc: Sunday would be as good a place as any to start a good relationship with the fans then?
Benji: "Yes, I think so too! If I get the chance to play on Sunday I will be ready and hungry after playing my last game for Portsmouth at Old Trafford and not being on the winning side."
mcfc: Obviously it was a drawn out transfer, but all the way through it your desire to make it happen came across, can you explain what happened last week?
Benji: “I drove to London and missed the first flight because they’d cancelled it, then I had to catch the one at 9.40pm, so that’s why I came late.”
mcfc: And you stayed up here since the delay to the move on Thursday to see it through?
Benji: “Yes. I stayed up here until Tuesday. I was keen for the move to be sorted – it went through on Thursday and they wanted to discuss some issues – but the move was already done and dusted.”
mcfc: There were a few rumours at the time that you’d fallen asleep in the airport, but you’ve said you drove to an airport in London to catch another flight, so we can put that one to bed, so to speak, that you didn’t fall asleep?
Benji: “No, I don’t remember me sleeping, but as you know some people can create stories for others that would be interested in this story.
mcfc: It must have been a big decision for you to leave Portsmouth and join City?
Benji: “As I said before, Manchester City is a good club and everyone would like to join a club like City.”
mcfc: What will you bring to the team?
Benji: “I’m a player who looks for goals. I’m a striker and I’m looking forward to scoring goals for Manchester City.”
mcfc: Do you set targets as a striker, with 12 goals already this campaign you must be pleased?
Benji: “Now I’m here, we can take away the 12 goals I’ve scored already and get to work scoring in a City shirt.”
mcfc: So another 12 goals here then before the end of the season?
Benji: “I’ll be very impressed if I get another 12 goals before May!”
mcfc: We’ve just mentioned the goals you’ve scored, but what about the special celebration that goes with it, can you share the meaning with us?
Benji: “Well I saw it on television. It was a man in a film and he was saying; ‘I like you [pointing], I like you, I like everyone!’ So I’ve taken it from that. I would be delighted to score for the City fans and do that for them.”
