Well SP was at Stoke on Monday apparently Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce is making plans for the January transfer window and was running the rule over targets at Stoke on Monday. Pearce knows he must strengthen his squad in a bid to achieve greater consistency after a mixed start to the season which has seen the Blues go five games unbeaten at home, without conceding a goal, while picking up only one point from six outings on their travels. Although the City manager refused to outline which areas of his side he was looking to reinforce, it is believed he is after at least four players, with presumably a striker on the hit-list given his forwards have managed a combined tally of just two goals this term. And, while it will be another seven weeks before Pearce can take the plunge, he is already identifying targets and was at Stoke on Monday running the rule over more potential recruits. "We are looking at players who will improve us," he said. "I need to sit down with the chairman and see what finance is available to me but I have positions I am prioritising. "Not a great deal of business gets done during the January window, so whether I can get those players is another matter. But we have certainly been very busy looking." who the hell in the stoke team is going to strengthen us ? The only one I know is Hendrie - and he's off back to Villa btw - Looks like Sidwell is now going to sign a new contract with Reading

| Transfer round-upThe window for transfer speculation re-opened this week, fuelled by Pearce saying he wanted four more players in January. Sky Sports reported that City were interested in 24-years-old Surinam forward Andwele Slory, who has scored 5 goals in 10 games for Dutch side Excelsior this season and bagged 14 goals in 36 games last season. His stats can be found here. The link to Egyptian striker Amr Zaki comes from this report, which was based on a fax from an agent and claims City have tabled a £2m bid for him. David Pleat wrote this profile of Zaki in The Guardian. But the MEN, which is in danger of becoming the official mouthpiece for City, believes that limited funds means Pearce will be looking at players from the lower leagues. It named Izale McLeod at MK Dons, Scunthorpe’s Billy Sharp, Nicky Maynard at Crewe and Caleb Folan at Chesterfield as potential targets. I’ll be running detailed profiles our these four - and other potential targets - next week. ~ With Micah Richards today named in the full England squad, we can only hope the four signings Pearce is after won’t be funded by his sale. As the call-up makes Richards our most saleable asset, the odds on him being at the club next season must be getting pretty slim. Scouting Report: Amr Zaki, Egypt The current Egyptian football icon Mido blotted his copybook with an amazing show of egotism in the African Nations Cup semi-final, but a new star is emerging. Amr Zaki caught my eye while I was in Cairo covering the tournament and he looks to me to have all the qualities to do a good job next season for a club at the lower end of the Premiership. Zaki is an adaptable striker who can play behind a front two or as a main forward, and he looks to have good energy, attitude, strength and technical ability. He can play short and long passes, gets into the six-yard box effectively and scored with a towering header to take Egypt into the final. The grapevine says that he will move from his current club ENPPI to one of his country's two big clubs, Zamalek or Al Ahly. But I believe if he can overcome cultural differences he should make for Europe. At the moment he is the leading scorer in Egypt with eight goals from 11 appearances. He looks to have the determination that would be needed in the Premiership. I like his willingness to seek the ball at all times, and after receiving a heavy tackle from a powerful DR Congo defender in the quarter-final he sprung straight to his feet and gave a contemptuous shrug. It was a pass he hit in that game for Hassan Hossam to score that really made me sit up. With the outside of his right foot he struck a stunning lofted 50-yard pass from deep midfield. As it dropped teasingly over the giant Congo left-back, Hossam got across his marker and scored with a rocket of a shot high into the net. It was a Hoddle-esque ball from Zaki, a gift-wrapped invitation to score and put Egypt 2-0 ahead and on their way to a semi-final. Zaki was deployed in the hole against Congo and showed he is an intelligent player. He drifted towards either flank and dropped deep to collect passes from his midfield. He then used the ball with economy, playing passes at a pace which meant that his team-mates could receive comfortably to make the next pass, and his movement was bright. If a player is lazy in that position he becomes a liability to his team. He has to work and move to give a problem and unbalance the opposition midfield. Zaki did that, often running his marker away before checking back to receive the ball. In the semi-final his introduction in place of Mido proved crucial, his immediate contribution being a header that took the team into the final after he arrived in the six-yard box with perfect timing. He started the final up front in Mido's absence and his determination and sturdy shielding of the ball gave the excellent Ivory Coast defence plenty to think about. In the 87th minute he thought he had won the game for Egypt with a tap-in but the goal was disallowed, and twice before that he was poaching in the six-yard box, inches away from reaching crosses. He is brave and showed a cool temperament by scoring his penalty in the shoot-out. Age 22 Club ENNPI (Egyptian Oil Company) Position Forward Height 5ft 9in Weight 11st 8lb Awareness 8/10 Skill 7½/10 Heading 8/10 Team responsibility 7½/10 Temperament 7/10 Speed 7/10 Pleat's valuation Uncertain, but a good bet at £1m

| We don't need another striker. If that area is where SP thinks he needs to strengthen then it shows he has no idea how to motivate and get the best of the players he has (poor man management) and that he thinks the team is playing well and creating enough chances (which they ain't).
Give Samaras the service and some confidence and he will score goals.
I agree with Sco. A left back, a winger for each flank and a creative central midfielder. If we still aren't scoring then give Sturridge his chance.

| | Another option is Derek Riordan. He prefers to play as a striker, but can also play on the wings. I know it was 'only' Scotland, but I remember him scoring a shedload of goals for Hibs. He moved to Celtic on the cheap as his contract was running out, but hasn't played much for them and is possibly looking to move. I've just read that apparently Norwich of all teams are looking to sign him in a cut-price deal of about £250k. His Wikipedia entry

| Rick Holden could still do a better job on either wing at the moment!

| | Yeah - the name rings a bell - he scored shed loads for for Hibs and Celtic did a chelsea - signed him and left him to rot - I'm more inclined to sign a guy from either scotland or the lower leagues cos they know the game in england already the last two games show that we are creating chances and are not converting them - despite all four strikers staying behind after training this week for extra practise if the guy swe have aren't able to do the job then we need some one who can I have readjusted my points target to two - Fulham were unluck y not to get all three against Pompey and looked a very good team

| Cloudy O'Reyna (13/11/2006) Sweep will be back on loan come January - you have my word on it.I would love that to be true. He can make up to the fans for his past errors of judgement by putting in some vintage SWP performances.
