City star seeks Deportivo switch

Geovanni hoping for free transfer

City star seeks Deportivo switch

Geovanni: Deportivo offer

Manchester City's Geovanni is set to seal a move to Deportivo La Coruna, his agent has claimed.

The Spaniards have lined up a move for the Brazilian forward and have offered him a one-and-a-half year contract.

However, the deal is dependent on City agreeing to release the player on a free transfer - despite the fact he is contracted to the summer.

Geovanni, who previously played in Spain with Barcelona for two years, now appears close to returning to La Liga - subject to Sven Goran Eriksson's agreement.

Agreement

"There is already an agreement for a year-and-a-half," Roberto Assuncao - Geovanni's step-father and representative - told AS.

"The player is very happy with the interest of Deportivo and hopes everything can move forward.

"Now everything depends on the release of Geovanni, over the past few days we have advanced a little and we hope for another meeting on Monday in the hope that we can get his direct release as a Manchester City player."

It now remains to be seen whether City will let Geovanni go and the recent injury to Mexican Nery Castillo - who is sidelined for at least five weeks - could mean they are unwilling to do any deal.

No  Sven should give the younger players more chances to play.

Geo is not that good. He just made that goal against United.

And he probably is not satisfied with sitting on the bench most of the time.

I hope he will stay for a long time with us. That's right he did not do that much, but the time will come when we need him.

The chances are he won't be satisfied with sitting on the bench, but from City's perspective, we should try our best to keep him.

He's a cracking player, very effective as a sub, he can turn games in our favour and we need that.
