Sven-Goran Eriksson has this afternoon revealed his disappointment that the bad weather has scuppered his plan to see Danny Sturridge in action tonight.

The youth striker hasn’t played a single game for City since his fourth minute penalty helped the Blues’ reserves to lift the Manchester Senior Cup last season.

A disappointed Sven told us: “He should have been playing tonight in the reserves but unfortunately the match is off due to a waterlogged pitch. So I’m sad about that because I wanted to see him.

“I can tell you is he a very good football player. How good he is it’s not fair to say after the five training sessions I’ve seen him in.

“I’m not sure when the reserves are playing next but he will be playing in that game.”

Indeed Sturridge’s return to fitness was part of the reason why Ched Evans has been allowed to return to Norwich City and continue his fine form.

“Yes that’s right,” said Sven. “Ched’s gone back out to Norwich for one month at least and after the month we can take him back if we want.

“He’s done well on loan already and he scored again at the weekend.”

And of course being in the middle of January throws up various transfer questions and it was Ishmael Miller’s name brought up today as he’s now fit again and scoring for West Brom.

Regarding the powerful forward’s future, Eriksson stated: “He’s on loan until the end of the season and then he comes back. We’ll see him in July for pre-season, hopefully he’ll be with us, and we’ll take the next step from there.

“He’s doing very well and I’m pleased about it. He’s been playing as a striker there and I believe he is a striker.

“We are pleased that he’s doing so well, and of course for every game he plays we have a scout there watching him.”

One player that could well be on the move is former Lazio man Ousmane Dabo.

The French midfielder was last week linked with a return to his homeland to join Marseille and Sven revealed: “One month ago I spoke to his agent and I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves.

“I suppose he is frustrated and he is a good football player and he hasn’t played anything at all for us.

“But he is a very good professional, he’s training very hard every day, and that’s good.”

Shame, still at least he may get a game before the end of the season.

Very tactful about Dabo too

Good old SVen. He always seems to know just the right thing to say. No wonder he's got such an effect on the ladies.
