| November 7th, 2006I thought I’d compile of list of when the players’ contracts expire, and was a little concerned to discover that eight first-team regulars will be free agents this summer. The squad members missing from the list are Ishmael Miller and Michael Johnson. Miller signed his first professional contract at the start of the 2005/06 season, while Johnson was given a contract last season. It’s unclear how long either contract is for, though. Here’s when the contracts expire: Next summer:

Which of the 8 were you concerned about?
Beasley is on loan, so he shouldn't be on the list
Thatcher can go next summer if we can find a replacement, hopefully this Jan
Reyna is an OK player but at the end of his career
Trabelsi has signed a one year pay as you play deal as he is injury prone
Distin, we all knew this anyway
Sinclair is getting on a bit now and shows only glimpes of his past form, so should be replaced.
Weaver has been injured for ages and has only just come back, I hope he gets a new contract soon.
Jordan better start playing better or the same fate as for Thatcher

| Great post! Thanks for the effort!
I agree its a worry. although none of the players themselves would be a big loss to the team it does mean they need to be replaced before the team can be improved greatly. Each year we discuss the players needed (currently a winger and an attacking midfielder) but they drop down the list as we simply fill in the holes. Next year we'll need eight players PLUS a winger and an attacking midfielder. And there have been many players who weren't replaced for a season or more (Anelka, Bosvelt, MV Foe etc).
Its also really worrying we're stuck with the current strikers for an age. |

| | No one on the list is a massive worry. Weaver will sign a new contract. He only got a one year due to all his injury problems. I think he has proven that he is a good premier league goal keeper so would be surpised if he left. The rest are nothing major. None of them (except distin) will leave if we want to keep them. I think its a good sign that we can get rid of some of these players. I would be more worried if Ben Thatcher had a contract till 2010! |
