badly drawn bassman (10/01/2008)
Danny's Studs (10/01/2008)
So, just to clarify, what are your thoughts on Oasis Bassman?

Definitely Maybe - awesome 10/10

Morning glory - overproduced 5/10

the masterplan - even their early b-sides were good 8.5/10

be here now - wank wank wankety wank wank wank 3/10

standing on the shoulder of giants - track 1 good, then downhill 4/10

heathen chemistry - not bad 6/10

don't believe the truth - hmmm 5/10

there you go.

At least for once Bassman you have backed up an arguement by showing some understanding of the subject

Heathen Chemistry had a few top quality songs on it. I'd say 610 is fair enough.

I reckon you're well out with DBTT though, i'd give that an 8/10.

Be Here Now - hmmmm, not that great, i'd say there's still three songs that can proudly sit in a very good back catalogue.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants is pretty poor - Little James is one of the worst songs i've ever heard.

Morning Glory - we'll always disagree on this becasue it's one of my favourite albums ever, and i don't think there are any bad songs on there at all.

Masterplan is an exceptional b-sides collection. Some stuff on there that could easily fit in with Definitely Maybe.

And finally, Definitely Maybe is one of the finest debut albums ever made.

Why did i do them in a messed up order?

Right i am not meaning to be nasty or anything when i say this, and i'm not trying to put you down.  You are a lot younger than me, and i'm assuming that when the first two albums came out, you were a kid, and may have bought them both at a later date??  If i'm wrong then i apologise.

I bought both as they came out, so the impact of Definitely Maybe on me cannot be overstated - it made me want to be a musician and be in a band.  There had been nothing else when that album came out, i'd heard nothing like it.

Then Morning Glory came out....nicey, nicey nicey, overproduced..we are now the Beatles, everything clean in the production, and totally different to Def Maybe.  Also, a lot of the lyrics were meaningless dross, unlike Def Maybe, with songs like Cigarettes & Alcohol, and Live Forever..those songs were songs for a generation.

My overall opinion on Morning glory just hasn't changed..maybe if Morning glory was a debut album, by a different band, maybe, it could be viewed differently.  So maybe because i held Oasis up with such high esteem, is why i am constantly disappointed by them now.

That they better start assembling the boys from the fort.
And keep Mrs. Honeyman right out of sight,

I totally agree with that about Little James, it must be one of the most cringeworthy songs ever recorded.

I can understand that, and you're right to say i bought them at a later date, but i still grew up with them in the house.

Morning Glory was the one i was into first, and that had a pretty big effect in my taste in music changing vastly in the last year or so, along with other factors. I'd say that listening to that, The Stone Roses and going to the Morrissey gig last year having not previously listened to him or The Smiths is what got me listening to music different to what i used to listen to. So as you say the influence of Definitely Maybe on yourself can't be overstated, i'd say Morning Glory had a pretty similar thing with me.

I listened to The Masterplan last night, must have been all this talk on here.
