His height has everything to do with it. None of his last three managers (Sven, McClown and Rafa), when able to choose from a fully fit squad would have considered Crouch as first choice. He was/is in their squads because of the misguided perception that he must be good in the air and therefore offer you something different if necessary. So you're saying that despite it being completely obvious to everyone who watches Crouch play that he has minimal aerial presence, Sven, Rafa and McClown picked him because they thought he was good in the air? Nothing to do with his goalscoring then? And they've told you this have they? I'm saying the penny is slow to drop. I'm saying that Rafa bought him on the basis of his height, as he played a target man at Valencia. Sven and McClown picked him because he played for Liverpool. Had City have signed him and he'd scored a goal every game he wouldn't have been picked. Sad fact is that England have no other lofty alternative at the minute, so shit wins by default. So are you saying that Rafa bought him without any knowledge of his lack of areial ability? Can't see that BU. I also don't think that Sven is so one dimentional to pick a player just because he plays for one of the so called big four. Oh come off it ESM. Why else is it that Crouch was selected as soon as he signed for Liverpool, and Smith was back in the squad as soon as he signed for United? How else could you explain Wes Brown? Whether he was picked because of who he is, what he is, what he can offer or who he plays for, don't you concede that Sven was vindicated by Crouch's 14 goals in 24 games for England? I'm not having a dig at Sven. He had to use what was available. You surely remember Sven saying he preferred picking players with CL experience, thus he picked players mostly from the top four. I'd be interested to see a break down of Crouch's goals for club and country. Would be interesting to see how many were against the Brazils and Uniteds, and how many were against the Trinidads and Watfords. End of the day, as I said earlier in the thread, I don't want him. That's not saying he's a shite player, I just can't see how he'd fit into the current squad and how he'd work out with our quick counter attacking style of play. If Sven was to sign him he'd have to go back to the drawing board with regards tactics, for a start we'd have to play a lot further up the field, and I'm not sure we've got the midfielders to allow us to do that. Just what I was goin to post ^. Cheers ESM |

Crouch scores goals end of Agreed and Sven has worked with him before so thinks he is a class player. Trust Sven he knows what he is doing Err, that doesn't necessarily follow. You think Sven would want to sign every player he worked with whilst managing England? I certainly hope not. Cast your mind back to the start of the season when he said with England he did not have an Elano. He isn't restricted anymore. I do trust in Sven, and I trust he is not interested in Crouch. Frank, however, has said he is. Watch this space BU. You might get a late, lanky christmas present yet........

| i cant really see it happening i think he may strengthen the midfield first and see how castillo goes, no doubt he will sign a striker but i get a feeling Sven will sign a nice quick agile preadatory striker, all of which crouch is not. ruud maybe?? i would have him in a flash, he has been a galacticos long enough now to cleanse him of the filth.

What i meant was that if Sven signs Peter Crouch he must think he is a class player and i trust his judgement. When Sven signs a player that he has previously worked with then he obviously rates the guy. |

| | Ive just read an terrible article saying SGE will swap Johnson and Onouha with money, for Crouch. This site have posted funny articles before though, but its bit scary knowing that Hans Backe has a past at this place.

Yes i read that as well, if that does happen i think we will see the first discontent against Sven. Though I think there is no way he would agree to this. We have money to burn and if he wants Crouch he can afford to buy crouch without giving away two of our best young players. |

Crouch or not, he isn't going to trade those 2 plus money. Someone is yanking your chain.

I can't see that happening to be honest, but if it did... i would be less than happy, lets put it that way, although more so for Johnson than Onouha; i've lost faith in him somewhat recently, although i still rate him.
